| Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey | Systems Neuroscience, Motor Circuits, Holography | Neuroscience and Cell Biology | Ian Oldenburg | 03/01/2027 | The Oldenburg Laboratory at Rutgers University is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher to join an exciting neuroscience project utilizing advanced optical tools to study neural circuits underlying movement. The Oldenburg lab uses and develops multiphoton holographic optogenetics combined with two photon calcium imaging to study how groups of neurons in the motor cortex work together to enact actions. By using our novel techniques, we can causally test different theories of how neural population codes drive behavior. Holographic optogenetics allows us to directly activate individual and user specified groups of neurons in the field of view of a 2P microscope with better spatial and temporal resolution than ever before. We use this novel technology to answer previously intractable, but fundamental, questions about neural coding. This work is highly interdisciplinary, so many diverse skill sets are useful. Previous experience with 2-photon imaging, electrophysiology, optical engineering, computational neuroscience, and/or animal behavior will benefit this position. Strong technical and analytical skills are preferred. We encourage individuals with experience studying the motor system to apply. | Please send your CV, Cover Letter, and contact information for references to ian.oldenburg@rutgers.edu. | Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey | Developmental and Cancer BIology | Waksman Institute | Kenneth Irvine | 07/31/2026 | Our research investigates molecular mechanisms through which mechanical forces are regulated and perceived, how biochemical and biomechanical signals are integrated, and how they act together to modulate growth and shape during developmental, physiological, and pathological processes. We would especially like to add a post-doctoral associate to our team investigating mechanisms of Hippo pathway regulation during development and in cancer. Planned investigations will build on our discovery of a process that links cytoskeletal tension at adherens junctions to regulation of Hippo signaling and tissue growth. This occurs through tension-dependent recruitment of an Ajuba family LIM protein (Jub in Drosophila, LIMD1 in mammals) to -catenin. Jub then recruits and inhibits the key Hippo pathway kinase, Warts, which leads to increased activity of the Hippo pathway transcription factor Yorkie (Yki). We are investigating molecular mechanisms mediating this regulation, extending our recent discovery of recruitment of Warts into phase-separated biocondensates with Jub and of a Jub-promoted phosphorylation of the Warts N-terminus. Our research will identify additional kinases that regulate Warts/LATS, and test hypotheses regarding how these activities contribute to inhibition of Warts and their relevance to regenerative and oncogenic stimuli that activate Yki and its mammalian homologues. Our research employs multiple, complementary techniques, including genetic analysis, imaging, cell culture, genomics, and biochemistry. We collaborate with other labs both at Rutgers and at other universities. | University of Iowa | precision psychiatry, psychosis | Psychiatry | Jacqueline Clauss, MD, PhD | 03/20/2027 | The PRECISION Lab (Precision Research in Early Clinical Intervention, Systems, and Integrated Outcomes in Neurodevelopment) is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral scholar to join a multidisciplinary research program focused on understanding risk and resilience for psychiatric illness across development using multimodal human neuroscience approaches. The lab integrates neuroimaging, sleep measurement, digital phenotyping, electronic health record (EHR) data, and deep clinical phenotyping to identify predictors of symptom trajectories and functional outcomes in youth and young adults. Of note, the PRECISION Lab is currently at the University of Maryland but will be moving to the University of Iowa in September 2026. A major focus of the lab is the development of state-of-the-art longitudinal precision functional mapping approaches, including repeated neuroimaging and intensive phenotyping, to understand how brain networks and symptoms evolve within individuals over time. These studies combine high-frequency neuroimaging, behavioral assessment, wearable data, and digital phenotyping to characterize the dynamics of psychiatric symptoms and brain function. The postdoctoral scholar will have opportunities to work with multiple complementary datasets, including large-scale developmental neuroimaging cohorts (e.g., ABCD, AMP-SCZ) as well as an existing weekly longitudinal precision functional mapping (PFM) dataset that integrates repeated MRI, behavioral assessments, and symptom monitoring within individuals. Ongoing work is expanding these approaches to psychiatric populations, enabling the study of how brain network dynamics relate to emerging symptoms and functional outcomes. The scholar will join a highly collaborative research environment and will work closely with investigators across psychiatry, neuroscience, engineering, data science, and neuroimaging methods. The position provides opportunities to collaborate across multiple research groups and institutions and to contribute to large-scale longitudinal datasets and emerging multimodal analytic approaches. A major goal of the fellowship is career development. The postdoctoral scholar will receive structured mentorship and will be encouraged and supported to develop independent projects and apply for external funding (e.g., NIH K-awards and foundation grants). The PRECISION Lab will be moving to the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Department of Psychiatry at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine, within a vibrant and collaborative neuroscience research community. Iowa City is a dynamic and family-friendly college town consistently ranked among the most livable communities in the United States. The area offers excellent schools, abundant outdoor recreation, and a vibrant arts and cultural scene. Iowa City has a unique intellectual and cultural environment while maintaining a high quality of life and affordable cost of living.
